Inflammatoriske is a Danish term used to describe processes, conditions or mediators that involve inflammation. Inflammation is a protective response of the body's immune system to injury, infection or irritation, with the aim of removing harmful stimuli and starting tissue repair.

The inflammatory response involves blood vessel changes, immune cell recruitment and the release of chemical mediators. In acute inflammation, vessels dilate and become more permeable, leading to redness, warmth, swelling and sometimes pain. White blood cells, especially neutrophils, migrate to the affected area and release substances such as histamine, prostaglandins and cytokines. If the injurious stimulus is controlled, inflammation resolves and healing proceeds. If exposure persists or regulation is faulty, inflammation can become chronic, which may cause tissue damage and contribute to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and atherosclerosis.

Clinical relevance and assessment often rely on inflammatory markers. C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) are commonly used indicators of systemic inflammation, while procalcitonin can aid in distinguishing bacterial infections. Diagnostic tools such as imaging and biopsy may be employed to identify the location and cause of inflammation.

Treatment aims to address the underlying cause and reduce inflammation. Approaches include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids and, in chronic inflammatory diseases, disease-modifying therapies and biologics. Understanding inflammatoriske processes helps in diagnosis, management and monitoring of related conditions.
