Systems may be non-resonant or resonant; resonant designs extend usable distance, tolerance to misalignment, and overall efficiency in practical ranges.

Variants and design considerations: Inductionpowered implementations include non-resonant inductive charging and resonant inductive coupling. Limitations include the need for proximity and alignment, slower charging compared with high-end wired methods in some cases, potential energy loss over distance, and regulatory and safety considerations.
