InServiceInspektionen is a term used to describe inspections conducted on equipment or structures while they are in operation, with the aim of assessing structural integrity and safety. The goal is to detect degradation such as corrosion, fatigue, cracking, erosion, or wear before these issues compromise performance or lead to failures. The concept is applied across industries including energy, aviation, oil and gas, chemical processing, water infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Inspections are usually organized within an overall integrity management program and follow an established plan. Non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, magnetic particle inspection, and dye penetrant testing are common, often complemented by visual examination, leak testing, functional checks, and sensor-based monitoring. Data from inspections are recorded, analyzed, and compared with design limits and historical trends to determine the need for action.

Planning and regulation: InServiceInspektionen are frequently mandated or guided by regulatory authorities and industry standards. Examples include practices in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section XI) for certain vessels and piping, API standards for oil and gas equipment, and other regional regulations.
