Idrætsforbund is a term used for national or regional organizations that govern and promote a sport or group of sports within a country. These federations act as the official authority for their sport, setting competition rules, determining eligibility, organizing national championships, and supporting athlete development and safety.

Most idrætsforbund are members of a national sports system and affiliate with international federations for the respective sport. They coordinate with clubs, schools, and local authorities to standardize coaching, officiating, and sport delivery. They also oversee coach education, talent development, anti-doping policies, safeguarding, and ethical guidelines, and they help organize national teams and selections.
