IUIssä

IUIssä is a Finnish term often encountered in discussions related to reproductive medicine. It refers to Intrauterine Insemination, a procedure where sperm is placed directly into a woman's uterus around the time of ovulation to facilitate fertilization. This method is commonly used as a treatment for infertility.

The process typically involves several steps. First, a woman may undergo ovulation induction, often with fertility medications, to stimulate the development of one or more mature eggs. Her ovulation cycle is then carefully monitored using ultrasound and hormone tests. When ovulation is imminent, the sperm is collected and specially prepared in a laboratory to concentrate the healthiest and most motile sperm. The prepared sperm is then inserted into the uterus using a thin, flexible catheter. The procedure itself is usually quick and relatively painless, often compared to a routine gynecological examination.

IUIssä is considered a less invasive and less expensive fertility treatment compared to in vitro fertilization (IVF). It is often recommended for couples where the male partner has mild to moderate sperm issues, or when unexplained infertility is diagnosed. It can also be used in cases of cervical factor infertility or for single women or same-sex couples using donor sperm.
