ICIMODs

ICIMODs commonly refers to the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, a regional intergovernmental organization focused on sustainable mountain development in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region. Based in Kathmandu, Nepal, ICIMODs serves eight member countries and a network of partners across government, academia, civil society, and the private sector. The organization supports knowledge generation, data sharing, and policy and practice to advance resilient mountain development.

ICIMODs was established in 1983 with the participation of the Government of Nepal and international development partners, including United Nations agencies and bilateral donors. It operates as an autonomous regional center under the framework of its member states, with a governance structure led by a Board of Governors representing member countries.

Core program areas include climate change adaptation and resilience, water resources management, biodiversity and ecosystem services, disaster risk reduction, sustainable livelihoods, and gender equity and social inclusion. ICIMODs pursues its mission through knowledge management, applied research, capacity-building, and policy support, and maintains platforms and data repositories to facilitate access to mountain-related information.

ICIMODs collaborates with national governments, regional and international organizations, universities, research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and local communities. It produces scientific reports, policy briefs, trainings, and tools to support decision-making and implementation at national and regional levels, and it promotes transboundary cooperation on climate resilience, water governance, and ecological stewardship in the HKH region.
