Hårdlitografi

Hårdlitografi is a type of lithography, a planographic printing process, that utilizes a special plate or surface designed to withstand significant wear and tear. Unlike traditional lithography that relies on the chemical repulsion of oil and water, hårdlitografi often employs extremely durable materials for both the printing plate and the image carrier. This can include hardened metals, ceramics, or specially treated polymers capable of enduring high pressure and abrasive inks without degrading. The term "hård" is Swedish for "hard," directly referencing this enhanced durability.

The process typically involves creating a relief or intaglio image on this hard surface. For relief printing, ink is applied to the raised areas, and the paper is pressed onto these inked portions. In intaglio, ink is held in recessed lines or areas, and excess ink is wiped from the surface before printing. The primary advantage of hårdlitografi lies in its longevity, allowing for the production of very large print runs with consistent quality. This makes it suitable for applications where durability and repeated use of the printing plate are paramount, such as in certain industrial printing processes or for producing highly durable artworks.
