Háziasítva

Háziasítva is a Hungarian term that translates to "domesticated" or "tamed" in English. It refers to the process by which wild animals are adapted over generations to live alongside humans, becoming more docile, dependent, and often physically altered. This process is distinct from simply taming an individual animal, which is a behavioral change rather than a genetic one.

Domestication typically involves selective breeding, where humans favor and reproduce individuals with desirable traits, such as a calm temperament, reduced aggression, or increased productivity (e.g., milk production in cows, egg laying in chickens). Over long periods, this artificial selection leads to significant changes in the animal's physiology, morphology, and behavior compared to its wild ancestors.

The earliest examples of domestication include dogs, which were domesticated from wolves thousands of years ago, and livestock such as sheep, goats, cattle, and pigs, which were domesticated from their wild relatives. The development of agriculture was heavily reliant on these domesticated animals for food, labor, and other resources.

Key characteristics of domesticated animals often include a greater tolerance for humans, a reduced fear response, altered reproductive cycles, and changes in diet. While some domesticated animals retain a degree of independence, others have become highly specialized for human needs and are unable to survive without human care. The concept of háziasítva encompasses this entire spectrum of adaptation and human influence.
