Hypodermatinae
Hypodermatinae is a subfamily of flies within the family Oestridae, order Diptera. Members of this subfamily are obligate parasites of mammals, with a particular association to cattle and other ruminants. The best-known genus is Hypoderma, whose species are commonly referred to as cattle warble flies, and which give the subfamily its name. Other genera within Hypodermatinae also parasitize mammals, though Hypoderma species are the most economically important.
Biology and life cycle: Adults are free-living flies that typically lay larvae or eggs on the host
Medical and economic importance: Hypodermatinae species, especially Hypoderma bovis and Hypoderma lineatum, are significant livestock parasites
Distribution and hosts: The subfamily is found in regions where suitable mammalian hosts occur, with a distribution
