Some common applications include decompression sickness, also known as "the bends," which can affect divers. It is also used for carbon monoxide poisoning, where breathing pure oxygen helps to clear the toxic gas from the bloodstream.

Furthermore, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is employed in wound healing, particularly for chronic or non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and radiation-induced injuries. It can also be beneficial in treating certain types of infections, including those affecting bone tissue. The duration and frequency of HBOT sessions are determined by the specific medical condition being treated and the patient's individual response. While generally considered safe, potential side effects can include barotrauma to the ears and sinuses, temporary vision changes, and in rare cases, seizures. HBOT is administered under the supervision of trained medical professionals.
