Hydrotechnice is a branch of civil engineering that focuses on planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water-related infrastructure. It encompasses the theory and practice of hydraulic engineering, fluvial and coastal engineering, and water resources management. The field addresses how to control, use, and protect water in rivers, seas, and urban environments while balancing safety, efficiency, and environmental concerns.

Key structures and systems include dams and reservoirs, levees and floodwalls, irrigation and drainage networks, hydropower plants, canal and port works, pumping stations, and stormwater management facilities. The discipline also covers river training, sediment transport, flood forecasting, and urban water supply.

Design and analysis rely on hydraulics, hydrology, fluid mechanics, sediment transport, and numerical modeling. Engineers use computational tools such as CFD, hydrologic models, and GIS, as well as physical hydraulic models, to evaluate performance, stability, and environmental impacts. Standards, codes, and safety factors guide construction and operation.
