Hydraulicelectronic, commonly referred to as electrohydraulic, denotes systems that combine hydraulic power with electronic sensing and control to regulate hydraulic actuators.

A typical electrohydraulic system comprises a hydraulic power unit (pump, reservoir, filtration), actuators (cylinders or hydraulic motors), valves (servo or proportional valves) to control flow and pressure, and an electronic control unit (ECU) with sensors (pressure, position, speed) feeding a feedback loop. Control signals from a PLC, microcontroller, or industrial PC drive the valve position to meet a commanded motion or force. Communication networks such as CAN, Ethernet, or fieldbus support integration in automation systems.

Applications include machine tools, metal forming presses, injection molding machines, robotics, and aerospace test rigs where high force and precise, fast motion are required.

Advantages include high power density, precise positioning, fast dynamic response, and the ability to implement complex control strategies; limitations include system complexity, higher cost, maintenance, potential hydraulic leakage, and energy efficiency concerns.

History and development: The concept emerged with the advent of electrohydraulic servo and proportional valves in the mid-20th century; advances in sensors and digital control have enabled sophisticated closed-loop control and integration with modern automation.
