Hitsausvirheet refer to imperfections or defects that can occur during the welding process. These defects can compromise the structural integrity and performance of the welded joint, leading to potential failures. Common types of hitsausvirheet include porosity, slag inclusions, lack of fusion, and cracks.

Porosity is the presence of gas pockets within the weld metal. It can be caused by contaminants on the base metal, improper shielding gas coverage, or excessively long arc length. Slag inclusions occur when non-metallic material, such as flux residue, is trapped in the weld. This is often a result of poor cleaning between weld passes or incorrect welding technique.

Lack of fusion, also known as incomplete fusion, happens when the weld metal does not properly fuse with the base metal or with adjacent weld beads. This can be due to insufficient heat input, incorrect electrode angle, or poor joint preparation. Cracks are fractures within the weld metal or the heat-affected zone. They can be caused by various factors including rapid cooling, improper filler metal selection, or excessive residual stress.

The presence of hitsausvirheet can significantly weaken a weld, making it susceptible to failure under stress. Detection of these defects is crucial and is typically performed through visual inspection, non-destructive testing methods like radiography, ultrasonic testing, or magnetic particle testing. Proper welding procedures, skilled welders, and adherence to quality control standards are essential to minimize the occurrence of these welding defects.
