Hippology

In practice, hippology is used in equine science education, veterinary contexts, and the horse industry. It is also associated with competitive events and quizzes in which participants identify breeds and anatomical features, explain nutritional needs, assess welfare considerations, and demonstrate knowledge of equipment and management practices.

The term is most commonly found in hobbyist or educational circles and in some regional or school-based programs. While hippology describes a broad area of knowledge about horses, it is not always taught as a standalone academic discipline; rather, its topics are typically included within broader programs in animal science, veterinary technology, equine studies, or similar fields.
