Helymeghatározó

Helymeghatározó (Hungarian: literally "location determiner") is a general term for devices, systems, or techniques used to determine the geographic position of an object or person. The concept covers a range of technologies from global satellite navigation to local indoor positioning and virtual location services.

Common methods include satellite-based systems (GNSS, e.g., GPS), trilateration and triangulation using radio signals, cell-tower or Wi‑Fi fingerprinting, Bluetooth beacons and ultra-wideband for indoor use, and inertial sensors that estimate movement between fixes. High-precision surveying instruments combine GNSS with correction services and local reference stations to achieve centimeter-level accuracy, while consumer devices typically provide meter-level accuracy under good signal conditions.

Applications span navigation, mapping, asset tracking, emergency response, location-based services, geotagging and scientific monitoring. Implementation choices are driven by required accuracy, coverage, power consumption and cost. Environmental factors, signal obstruction, device hardware and algorithm quality all affect performance.

Many jurisdictions regulate the collection, storage and sharing of location data and encourage practices such as user consent, data minimization and anonymization.
