Haploidse

Haploidse is a term occasionally used as a neologism to denote the hypothetical process of converting cells or organisms to a haploid state, meaning a genome with a single complete set of chromosomes. It is not a widely recognized or standard term in contemporary biology, but it may be encountered in speculative discussions or as a coined shorthand for haploidization activities.

In biology, haploidy is a natural condition in many life stages, such as sexual gametes, which carry one set of chromosomes. Haploidse, as a concept, would encompass methods and outcomes that aim to generate or induce haploid genomes beyond natural gametogenesis. In plant sciences, practical parallels exist in the creation of haploids and doubled haploids, where after haploid formation techniques such as anther or microspore culture, researchers may double the genome to obtain genetically uniform, homozygous lines useful for breeding. In animals and yeast, experimental approaches to produce haploid cells contribute to genetic analysis and functional genomics, though viability and stability are greater challenges in non-plant systems.
