Hanuki refers to a type of Japanese ceramic ware, specifically a glaze technique. It is characterized by a distinctive speckled appearance, often described as resembling a leopard's spots. This effect is achieved by applying a glaze containing iron-rich particles, typically feldspar and iron oxide, onto the stoneware body. During the firing process, these iron particles rise to the surface of the molten glaze, creating the characteristic dark speckles against a lighter background.
