Gázhegesztés, commonly known as gas welding, is a fusion welding process that utilizes a flame produced by the combustion of a fuel gas and oxygen to melt the base metals and often a filler rod. The most prevalent fuel gas used is acetylene, due to its high flame temperature, making the process of acetelyne-oxygen welding (oxy-acetylene welding) the most common form of gas welding. Other fuel gases like propane, hydrogen, or natural gas can also be employed, often with oxygen, but typically produce lower flame temperatures.

The welding torch is the primary tool, where the fuel gas and oxygen are mixed in specific proportions to create a focused flame. The operator manipulates the torch to direct the flame onto the workpiece, melting the edges of the parts to be joined. A filler rod is often fed into the molten pool to add material and build up the weld bead, ensuring a strong joint. The process can be used to weld a variety of metals, including steel, aluminum, and copper alloys, though its effectiveness varies depending on the material.

Gas welding is characterized by its portability and relatively low equipment cost, making it suitable for field repairs and small-scale fabrication. However, it generally has a lower welding speed and can introduce more heat distortion compared to other welding methods like arc welding. The skill of the welder is crucial in controlling the flame, the molten pool, and the filler rod to achieve a sound and aesthetically pleasing weld. It is also used for brazing and cutting metals.
