Gyalogjárda

Gyalogjárda is a Hungarian term meaning sidewalk or footpath adjacent to a street. It is a designated pedestrian pathway that runs along one or both sides of a road and is separated from motor vehicle traffic by a curb, a buffer, or landscaping. Its purpose is to provide a safe space for pedestrians and to separate foot traffic from vehicles.

Gyalogjárda surfaces are usually concrete, asphalt, pavers, or treated stone. Widths vary according to location and traffic, and urban sections often include curb ramps for accessibility, lighting, drainage, and tactile paving for visually impaired pedestrians. In busy streets the sidewalk connects to crosswalks, bus stops, building entrances, and sometimes to dedicated bicycle facilities where allowed.
