Gurtbänder

Gurtbänder, also called webbing or strap tape, are narrow, flat tapes designed to form straps, belts, and supports in clothing, bags, furniture, and safety equipment. They are produced by weaving or knitting fibers into continuous loops or flat bands and are offered in a wide range of widths and strengths. Typical widths extend from about 3 mm to 100 mm, and thicknesses vary with material and weave. The choice between non-elastic and elastic webbing allows for both rigid guidance and stretchable applications.

Common base materials are polyester and nylon for high strength and good abrasion resistance, polypropylene for economical, cotton or blends for natural aesthetics. Coatings such as PVC or polyurethane are used to make waterproof or robust webbing, while silicone-coated or grippy surfaces provide anti-slip properties. Reflective tapes can be added for visibility in low light.

Two main constructions exist: woven flat webbing (including plain weave and twill variants) and tubular webbing, used in climbing slings, seat belts, and bags. Many gurtbänder are designed for specific uses, such as luggage handles, backpack straps, garment belts, harnesses, or automotive and industrial applications. Selection depends on load, environment (UV, chemicals, moisture), safety requirements, and whether elasticity is desired.

Manufacturing and testing follow industry standards and customer specifications. Webbing is cut to length, finished with edge reinforcements or buckles, and subjected to tensile, abrasion, and colorfastness testing. Proper selection and finishing determine durability, user comfort, and compliance with relevant regulations in fields such as fashion, transport, and safety equipment.
