Godrevy

Godrevy is a headland on the north coast of Cornwall, England, forming the western boundary of St Ives Bay. It lies near the towns of Hayle and St Ives and includes the headland itself, Godrevy Point, Godrevy Beach, and the offshore Godrevy Island. The area is known for its rugged coastline, long sandy beaches, and maritime views.

Geographically, the coast features cliffs and dune systems that support a coastal habitat, and the landscape is part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Much of the coastline around Godrevy is managed by the National Trust and is traversed by public footpaths, making it a popular destination for walkers, surfers, and birdwatchers.

A prominent feature is Godrevy Lighthouse, which sits on the headland at the entrance to St Ives Bay. The lighthouse is an active navigation aid operated by Trinity House and was first lit in 1858. It is a recognizable landmark along the coast and has cultural significance beyond its navigational role, being associated with literature such as Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway.

Historically, the area has supported maritime activity and coastal recreation. The beaches and cliffs provide habitat for seabirds and other coastal wildlife, while the surrounding landscape draws visitors for scenic views and outdoor pursuits. Access is via established paths, with safety guidelines advised due to cliff edges and tidal conditions.
