Fönsterlucka refers to a small window panel that can be opened independently within a window frame, a wall opening, or a roof/attic assembly. It is used to provide ventilation, allow light, or give access for cleaning and service work. In Swedish building practice, fönsterluckor can be integrated into various parts of a building, including exterior walls, interior partitions, and roof penetrations.

Types of fönsterluckor include hinged units that open inward or outward, top- or side-hung configurations, as well as sliding or fold-out variants. Some are designed as vent-only panels without full glazing, while others are combined with a fixed glazing unit to preserve thermal performance. Roof and skylight variants are common in attics and loft spaces.

Construction and materials commonly involve wooden, PVC, or aluminum frames, with insulated glass or tempered glazing for safety. Weatherstripping, drainage channels, and proper flashing are important to prevent water intrusion and air leakage. Hardware typically comprises hinges, handles, and locks, and some designs may include automated actuators for controlled ventilation.

Functions and applications include increasing natural light, providing controlled ventilation, and offering access for maintenance or emergency egress in certain situations, subject to local regulations. When used as an egress opening, size, glazing, and safety features must comply with applicable building codes and standards.

Installation and maintenance considerations emphasize a flush fit with surrounding surfaces to minimize weather ingress, regular lubrication of moving parts, and periodic inspection of seals and hardware. Safety glazing may be required for openings at or near floor level or in areas subject to impact.
