Födelseposition

Födelseposition, often referred to as birth position or presentation, describes the orientation of the fetus within the uterus during labor. The most common and generally ideal position is the vertex presentation, where the fetus's head is down and the back of the head is facing the mother's front. This is also known as cephalic presentation.

Other presentations include breech presentation, where the fetus is positioned with its buttocks or feet foremost. There are variations of breech presentation, such as complete breech (knees and hips flexed), frank breech (hips flexed but knees extended), and footling breech (one or both feet presenting first). Transverse lie occurs when the fetus is positioned horizontally across the uterus.

The fetal position can influence the course of labor and delivery. Vertex presentation typically allows for the easiest and safest vaginal birth. Breech and transverse presentations may require medical intervention, such as external cephalic version to try and turn the baby, or a Cesarean section, to ensure the safety of both mother and child. Healthcare providers monitor fetal position through manual examination and ultrasound. Understanding the birth position is a crucial part of prenatal care and birth planning.
