Fékmechanizmusok refer to the systems and components within a vehicle responsible for slowing down or stopping its motion. These mechanisms operate by converting kinetic energy into heat through friction. The most common type is the friction brake, which typically involves a rotating disc or drum attached to the wheel and a stationary pad or shoe that presses against it. Hydraulic systems are widely used to apply this pressure. When the brake pedal is depressed, it actuates a master cylinder, which forces brake fluid through lines to caliper cylinders (for disc brakes) or wheel cylinders (for drum brakes). These cylinders then push the brake pads or shoes against the rotating surface, creating friction and slowing the wheel. Mechanical linkages and cables are also employed in some braking systems, particularly in older vehicles or for parking brakes. Modern vehicles often incorporate anti-lock braking systems (ABS) which modulate brake pressure to prevent wheel lock-up, allowing the driver to maintain steering control during hard braking.
