Fékelérésre is a Hungarian term that translates to "brake fade" in English. It describes a phenomenon where the braking performance of a vehicle significantly decreases, especially during prolonged or heavy braking. This reduction in effectiveness is primarily due to the overheating of the brake components, particularly the brake pads and rotors.

When brakes are applied repeatedly or for extended periods, the kinetic energy of the vehicle is converted into heat through friction. If this heat cannot dissipate quickly enough, the temperature of the braking surfaces rises to a critical point. This excessive heat can cause several issues. The friction material of the brake pads can outgas, releasing volatile compounds that form a gaseous layer between the pad and the rotor. This layer acts as a lubricant, reducing the coefficient of friction and thus the braking force. Additionally, extreme heat can cause the brake fluid to boil, leading to a spongy pedal feel and a further loss of braking power as the vapor compresses.
