Frostwall is a fortified settlement in the northern reaches of the fictional realm of Eldmere. Perched on a high cliff overlooking Frostmere Bay, it serves as the administrative and military center of the Northern March. The fortifications consist of pale stone walls and frost-coated towers that shelter an inner harbor and key supply routes.

Geography and climate

The site commands a strategic overlook of sea routes and inland passages. The region experiences long, cold winters with frequent blizzards and stinging winds from the Ice Sea. Seasonal seas make maritime access challenging, while a nearby mountain pass remains the main overland link to the south.

History

Frostwall began as a defensive outpost constructed by the Winter Crown to deter northern raiders and protect traders. Over time it expanded into a full settlement with granaries, workshops, and a garrison. The fortress endured repeated sieges and shifting allegiances before becoming the ceremonial and administrative heart of the Northern March in the current era.

Economy and society

The local economy centers on shipbuilding, metalwork, and the trade of salted fish and furs. The Frostwright Guild regulates crafts and market standards, while annual winter markets draw traders from across the realm. The population is predominantly hardy settlers, artisans, and soldiers, with a tradition of self-reliance in extreme conditions.

Key landmarks include the Ice Gate, the Great Hall, and the Glacial Forge. Frostwall is governed by a Council of Wardens led by a High Warden, who oversees defense, justice, and external diplomacy. A permanent garrison maintains security and supports regional policing.
