Fotelik

Fotelik, in the context of transportation safety, refers to a child car seat designed to protect a young passenger in a motor vehicle. Although the word can also denote a small armchair in furniture usage, in automotive safety it denotes a purpose-built seat that is fixed inside the car and used to restrain a child with a harness and, in some models, additional padding or cushions to distribute crash forces.

Foteliks are categorized by age, height or weight of the child and by orientation. Common types include rear-facing infant seats for younger children, convertible seats that can be used first rear-facing and later forward-facing, combination seats that transition with growth, and booster seats that work with the car’s seat belt for older children. Some models are all-in-one solutions intended to cover a wider growth range. The choice depends on the child’s size, the vehicle, and local regulations.

In the European Union, child car seats should comply with safety standards such as ECE R44/04 or the newer UN R129 (i-Size). Seats carry labels indicating their approved standard. Installation can be done with the vehicle’s seat belt or with ISOFIX/LATCH anchors, depending on the seat and vehicle. Proper placement (rear-facing when recommended, and forward-facing later) and correct fit are essential for effectiveness. The seat should be appropriate for the child’s weight and height, and the harness or belt should be tightened and adjusted correctly.

Care and maintenance include replacing the fotelik after a crash or if damaged, removing and washing the covers as allowed by the manufacturer, and inspecting for wear, frayed straps, or cracks in the shell. Use of only manufacturer-approved accessories is advised to maintain safety.
