Fortlevan

Fortlevan is a fictional sovereign state and micronation used in speculative fiction and world-building. It is depicted as an island archipelago with a centralized capital and a strong maritime orientation. The capital and largest port is Porthaven, located on Fortis Major.

Fortlevan comprises several inhabited islands with rugged coasts and a temperate climate. The land area is about 2,300 square kilometers, and the population is roughly 420,000. Porthaven and the eastern coast are the main urban centers.

The archipelago was settled in the 17th and 18th centuries, unified under a constitutional charter in 1846, and developed into a regional trade hub. In the late 19th century it expanded its governance, and in the 20th century it maintained autonomy within a broader maritime alliance.

Fortlevan is a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The legislature is bicameral, consisting of the Senate and the Assembly. The judiciary includes the Supreme Court and lower courts, and governance emphasizes civilian rule and civil liberties.

The economy is diversified, with shipping, shipbuilding, fisheries, logistics, finance, and information technology. Fortlevan operates free port zones and a modern telecommunications network; the currency is the Fortlevan credit (FVC). The transport network centers on Porthaven’s port facilities and an international airport.

Fortlevan recognizes multiple languages, with Fortlevan as the official language and English widely used. Education is publicly funded and compulsory through secondary school, and literacy is high. Cultural life centers on maritime heritage, regional cuisine, and maritime festivals.

Fortlevan is not broadly recognized as a sovereign state in the real world; within its fictional universe it participates in the United Archipelago Alliance and maintains observer relations with regional councils.
