Fordonschassi refers to the structural framework of a motor vehicle, serving as its backbone and supporting all other components. Space frame chassis, characterized by a three-dimensional grid of interconnected tubes, provides exceptional strength and lightness, often found in sports cars and racing vehicles.

The materials used in chassis construction significantly impact vehicle characteristics. Steel is commonly used for its strength and cost-effectiveness, while aluminum alloys offer a lighter alternative, improving fuel efficiency and performance. Advanced composite materials, such as carbon fiber, are employed in high-performance vehicles for their superior strength-to-weight ratio.
