Folyadékfelszaporodás, often translated as fluid overload or fluid retention, refers to a condition where the body accumulates an excess of fluid. This can occur in various body compartments, including the interstitial spaces, blood vessels, and body cavities. The accumulation of fluid can lead to swelling, also known as edema. Several factors can contribute to folyadékfelszaporodás, including medical conditions affecting the heart, kidneys, or liver. For instance, heart failure can impair the heart's ability to pump blood efficiently, leading to fluid backup. Kidney disease can reduce the kidneys' capacity to excrete excess fluid and sodium. Liver disease, particularly cirrhosis, can affect the production of proteins like albumin, which help maintain fluid balance in the bloodstream.

Other causes include certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or calcium channel blockers, which can sometimes promote fluid retention. Hormonal changes, like those experienced during pregnancy or by individuals with certain endocrine disorders, can also play a role. Dietary factors, such as excessive sodium intake, can exacerbate fluid retention by causing the body to hold onto more water. Symptoms of folyadékfelszaporodás vary depending on the severity and location of the fluid accumulation and may include noticeable swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet, shortness of breath, weight gain, and abdominal distension. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, medical history, and potentially diagnostic tests like blood work, urine tests, or imaging studies to identify the underlying cause. Treatment strategies focus on addressing the root cause and may involve dietary modifications, medication adjustments, or therapies to manage the specific medical condition contributing to the fluid overload.
