Fluidsare

Fluidsare is a conceptual framework used in physics and applied mathematics to describe systems whose large-scale behavior can be modeled with fluid-like continuum equations, even when their microstructure is complex. The approach treats the system with fields such as velocity, density, pressure, and stress, and uses evolution equations that resemble Navier–Stokes equations, with constitutive relations that account for non-Newtonian or active properties.

Scope and motivation: The term is used to capture the idea that many complex materials—suspensions, emulsions, gels, granular media, and active swarms—exhibit flow and mixing under appropriate conditions. Fluidsare emphasizes macroscopic transport phenomena rather than detailed microstructure.

Mathematical formulation: Governing equations typically include mass conservation and momentum balance. The constitutive model relates stress to the rate of deformation and may include viscosity that depends on shear rate, time, or state variables; additional terms handle elasticity, yield stress, or anisotropy.

Applications: The framework informs industrial processing of complex fluids, biomedical flows, geophysical processes, and simulations of collective motion in crowds or swarms when a fluid-like description provides practical insight.

Limitations: A fluid description is not universal. In regimes with rigid solid-like behavior, strong microscopic constraints, or phase changes, alternative models may be required. Results depend on the chosen constitutive relations and the scales considered.
