Fließgießen

Fließgießen is a casting process used in manufacturing. It involves pouring molten metal into a mold under low pressure. This contrasts with high-pressure die casting, where the metal is forced into the mold cavity at much higher speeds and pressures. In fließgießen, the metal flows into the mold more gently, allowing for intricate details and thinner wall sections than some other casting methods.

The process typically begins with melting the metal, often aluminum or zinc alloys, in a furnace. The molten metal is then transferred to a ladle or a holding furnace and kept at a specific temperature. From there, it is poured into the die cavity. The low pressure applied to the metal during filling helps to ensure complete filling of the mold and reduces the risk of trapped air or gas porosity. After the metal solidifies within the mold, the die is opened, and the casting is ejected.

Fließgießen is well-suited for producing complex, high-precision parts with good surface finish. It is commonly used in industries such as automotive, electronics, and consumer goods for components like engine parts, housings, and decorative items. The lower pressure involved can also lead to less wear on the molds compared to high-pressure processes, potentially extending mold life.
