Fjellmark

Fjellmark is a municipality and village in the highland region of Nordmark, a fictional Nordic country. The municipality sits in a mountainous interior, characterized by conifer forests, glacial valleys, and short, bright summers. It covers roughly 820 square kilometers and ranges in elevation from low valleys to the 1,800-meter peaks that dominate the skyline. The climate is subalpine with cold winters and relatively mild summers.

The area has evidence of settlement dating to the Viking-age period and developed as a local administrative center after the Formannskapsdistrikt reform of 1838. Historically its economy relied on forestry, mining, and small-scale agriculture. In recent decades tourism, outdoor recreation, and renewable energy production have become important sectors, with several hydroelectric installations and a thriving winter sports scene.

As of 2023, Fjellmark has about 9,500 residents, with a population density around 12 inhabitants per square kilometer. The majority speak Nordmarkian, with Norwegian and Sami communities also present. The municipal government is elected by a council of 21 members, headed by a mayor.

Key attractions include the Fjellmark Nature Reserve, glacially carved valleys, and the Alpine Ridge. The local economy benefits from a network of regional roads and a small airfield that serves general aviation. Fjellmark hosts annual cultural events such as the Fjellmark Peak Race and a winter festival that attracts visitors from across Nordmark.
