Formannskapsdistrikt
Formannskapsdistrikt refers to the early self-governing municipalities that were established in Norway following the formannskapsloven of 1837. The reforms created local political units with elected representatives and introduced a system of local administration intended to place decision-making closer to residents. Each formannskapsdistrikt operated as an independent administrative entity within the national framework of law.
Historically, formannskapsdistrikt covered both urban and rural areas, and were typically organized around existing parish boundaries.
The creation of formannskapsdistrikt marked a significant shift toward local self-government in Norway, delegating substantial authority
