Fatigueresistant is a term used to describe the capacity of a material, component, or system to withstand repeated cycles of stress without experiencing significant degradation or failure. In practice, fatigue resistance is distinguished from static strength by focusing on performance under cyclic loading, where cracks can initiate and grow over many cycles even if the material withstands a single load.

In materials science, fatigue resistance is often quantified by fatigue life (Nf), the number of cycles to failure at a given stress amplitude, and by S–N (stress–number) curves. Materials with high fatigue resistance exhibit long lives under expected cyclic loads and may approach a fatigue limit or endurance limit. Factors influencing fatigue resistance include microstructure, inclusions, surface finish, temperature, corrosion, and environmental conditions. Common methods to improve fatigue resistance include surface treatments (such as shot peening or polishing), protective coatings, optimized heat treatments, and design choices that reduce peak stress or concentrate stress.

In biology and human performance, fatigue resistance refers to the ability to sustain muscle activity or cognitive effort over time. Determinants include energy metabolism, mitochondrial density, capillary supply, fiber type composition, and training status. Training interventions such as endurance or interval programs can increase fatigue resistance, as can nutrition, sleep, and recovery strategies. Measurement often involves time to exhaustion, sustained power output, or rate of perceived exertion during repeated tasks.

Fatigueresistant remains a cross-disciplinary concept, informing design, athletics, and safety by emphasizing durability under repeated use rather than peak strength alone.
