Fasilitoijalla

Fasilitoijalla is a Finnish-language term used to denote the facilitator in a group process, workshop, or meeting. It is formed from fasilitoija (facilitator) plus the adessive suffix -lla, which marks the bearer or the role associated with something, producing phrases such as “fasilitoijalla on vastuu” (the facilitator bears the responsibility). The expression is common in organizational discourse, though it is less formal than the standard job title fasilitaattori.

Role and responsibilities: The fasilitoijalla guides discussions, structures agendas, keeps time, and encourages participation from all members. They design activities and exercises to achieve agreed objectives, manage group dynamics, handle conflicts, and document decisions and action items. They also safeguard psychological safety, inclusivity, and a constructive climate.

Usage: In written and spoken Finnish, fasilitoijalla appears in sentences referring to the person performing facilitation. It is often used in informal or internal communications. In formal documentation or external communication, the term fasilitaattori or other facilitation-specific designations may be preferred, with “fasilitoijalla” used to specify the role within a sentence rather than as a standalone title.
