Fagkomiteen

Fagkomiteen is a Norwegian term used to designate a committee within an organization that handles professional or subject-specific matters. The committee's name reflects two Norwegian words: fag (profession, subject) and komiteen (the committee). The exact remit and powers of a Fagkomite can vary between organizations, but typical roles include advising the leadership on professional standards, education and training, certification requirements, and policy positions relevant to a particular field or group of members. The committee may propose initiatives, draft guidelines, and coordinate activities such as seminars, courses, and conferences aimed at professional development. It may also liaise with external bodies, such as professional regulators, employers, or unions, and may respond on behalf of the organization to consultations affecting the sector.

Composition usually consists of members who have expertise in the relevant field, often elected by the general assembly or appointed by the board. The chair, secretary, and other officers are elected from among the members. The committee meets regularly, produces minutes, and reports its recommendations to the organization's board or general assembly. Decisions are typically taken by majority vote, with the chair responsible for convening meetings and ensuring follow-up on actions.

In practice, many Norwegian and Scandinavian organizations use Fagkomiteen to structure professional input within larger bodies, while the exact term and function can differ.
