FFS

FFS is an acronym that can refer to several unrelated entities and concepts, depending on context. In sports administration, Fédération Française de Ski, or the French Ski Federation, is the national governing body for skiing and other winter sports in France. It oversees national teams, competition calendars, and the development of the sport at all levels.

In computing, FFS commonly stands for the Fast File System, a Unix filesystem developed at the University of California, Berkeley, to improve performance and scalability over earlier designs. Introduced in the 1980s with 4.2BSD, FFS became the basis for subsequent BSD file systems; later variants such as FFS2 appeared in modern BSD systems, continuing the lineage of Unix-like file system design.
