Extrusieroute refers to the planned path along which material is extruded in manufacturing processes that use an extruder, most often in additive manufacturing such as 3D printing. It describes where and when material is deposited by the print head or extrusion device, as opposed to the physical hardware alone. The concept is closely tied to toolpath generation, which determines the sequence of moves, the direction of travel, and the regions to be filled or formed.

In 3D printing, the extrusieroute is typically created by slicer software. It converts a digital model into a set of instructions that govern the printer’s movements, including perimeters, infill patterns, supports, and optional features such as rafts or brims. The route also encodes extrusion parameters such as flow rate or extrusion multiplier, layer height, nozzle temperature, and retraction settings. The aim is to produce accurate geometry, strong layer adhesion, and a good surface finish while minimizing print time and defects.

Key considerations for a good extrusieroute include the nozzle size and filament diameter, material properties, printer kinematics, and cooling conditions. Efficient routes reduce non-printing moves, stringing, and oozing, and they optimize material deposition to achieve dimensional accuracy and mechanical strength. Different strategies exist for infill patterns, perimeters, and bridging that affect the final part’s behavior under load and its surface quality.

Outside 3D printing, the term can also reference the broader routing of extrusion processes in manufacturing lines, where control of material deposition and flow is essential for product consistency.
