ExpressKeys

ExpressKeys is a line of programmable hardware shortcut keys developed by Wacom for its graphics tablets and pen displays. The keys are arranged in a row along the edge of the device and can be pressed to trigger actions that would normally require keyboard shortcuts or mouse operations. Each key can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut, a modifier plus keystroke, a specific command within a software, or a macro, enabling faster access to commonly used functions such as undo, redo, pan, zoom, brush size, or layer controls.

Configuration is done through the Wacom driver software on Windows or macOS. Users can create multiple profiles and assign different key mappings depending on the active application. Profiles can be swapped automatically when an application is launched, allowing software-specific shortcuts for Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Painter, and other programs. Many ExpressKeys support either a tactile, backlit surface or just tactile buttons, depending on the model.

ExpressKeys are built into some Wacom devices, such as Intuos and Cintiq series, and are also available as an accessory called the ExpressKey Remote, a wireless keypad with programmable keys that can be used away from the tablet. The system is designed to reduce hand movement and streamline workflows, at the cost of additional hardware and the need to maintain mappings.
