Energiedashboards

Energiedashboards are digital interfaces that collect, process, and visualize energy data to support monitoring and management of energy use. They are deployed in homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and utility programs to provide a consolidated view of how energy is generated, consumed, and priced over time.

Dashboards pull data from sources such as smart meters, sub-meters, on-site generation (solar PV, small wind), energy tariffs, and weather feeds. They translate raw measurements into metrics like kilowatt-hours (kWh), peak demand (kW), energy cost, carbon emissions, and energy intensity. They often include real-time or near-real-time data, historical trends, benchmarks against comparable assets, and baselines for performance targets.

Typical features include time-series visualizations, gauges, heat maps, and dashboards accessible on web or mobile devices; alerts for abnormal consumption or threshold exceedances; reporting and exportable data; and forecasting or scenario analysis to evaluate potential savings or demand-response opportunities. In practice, energiedashboards form part of broader energy management systems or building management systems and are used by facilities managers, energy managers, and sometimes occupants to support decision making.

Benefits include faster detection of anomalies, identification of energy-saving opportunities, improved demand management, cost reductions, and progress tracking for sustainability goals. Challenges include data quality and interoperability between different meters and systems, data privacy and security concerns, and the upfront and ongoing costs of implementation and maintenance. Standards and interoperability efforts, such as open data formats and industry protocols, aim to simplify integration across devices and platforms.
