Endothelinitis refers to the inflammation of the endothelium, the thin layer of cells that lines the interior surface of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels throughout the body. This condition can affect both arteries and veins, though it is more commonly associated with vascular structures. The inflammation may result from various underlying causes, including infections, autoimmune responses, or systemic diseases.

The endothelium plays a critical role in maintaining vascular health by regulating blood flow, preventing clot formation, and facilitating the exchange of substances between blood and tissues. When inflammation occurs, it can disrupt these functions, potentially leading to complications such as thrombosis, atherosclerosis, or tissue damage. Symptoms of endothelinitis may vary depending on the affected vessels and underlying cause but can include localized pain, swelling, redness, or systemic signs like fever and fatigue.
