Elvärmeaggregat is the Swedish term for an electric heating unit, a device that converts electrical energy into heat and is used for space heating or hot water production. They are commonly found in homes, small commercial buildings, and industrial facilities where convenient or rapid heating is required.

Types of elvärmeaggregat include resistance heaters, heat pump systems, and organo‑hydrogen fuel‑cell heaters. Resistance heaters use electric current passing through a resistive element, such as an electric furnace or panel heater. Heat pumps transfer heat from a low‑temperature source to a higher‑temperature space, offering higher efficiency by using electricity to move heat rather than generate it directly. Fuel‑cell heaters convert chemical energy from hydrogen or other gases into heat and electricity via an electrochemical reaction, providing a low–emission alternative.

Advantages of elvärmeaggregat are their rapid response, simple installation, and lack of combustion products, which makes them suitable for enclosed spaces. They can be integrated with renewable electricity sources, contributing to decarbonisation goals. However, their high electrical consumption can result in increased operating costs, especially in regions with expensive electricity tariffs. Efficiency is lower for pure resistance heaters compared to heat pumps, especially when the ambient temperature is low.

Typical applications include domestic space heating in apartment buildings, heating for small office spaces, emergency heating in hospitals, and process heating in small manufacturing settings. Elvärmeaggregat are usually controlled by thermostats, digital controllers, or building management systems that optimize their operation based on occupancy and desired temperature setpoints.

Maintenance of elvärmeaggregat is generally low; inspections focus on electrical connections, heating elements, and ventilation openings to ensure safety and performance. Over time, filaments or coils may need replacement, while heat‑pump components such as compressors and refrigerant lines require periodic servicing.
