Eltömdése

Eltömődése is a Hungarian term describing the process or result of becoming clogged or blocked. It is formed from the verb eltömődik (to become clogged) plus the nominal suffix -ése, which marks an event or action.

In medical use, eltömődése commonly refers to occlusion of a vessel or duct, such as arteries, veins, the biliary tract, or the urinary tract. Occlusion can lead to reduced or halted flow and may cause symptoms depending on the site, including pain, ischemia, jaundice, or infection, and can risk organ function if untreated.

In engineering and everyday language, the term describes clogging of pipes, filters, drains, or other channels due to accumulations such as mineral scale, sediment, grease, hair, or biological growth. In environmental and hydrological contexts, sediment deposition or debris can produce eltömődés in streams and drainage systems, altering flow and increasing flood risk.

Causes vary by context. Medical causes include thrombus, atherosclerotic plaque, stones, or fibrous tissue forming a blockage. In plumbing and industry, common causes are mineral scaling, rust, sludge, grease, and hair. In soil and drainage, root intrusion or debris can contribute to clogging. Diagnosis depends on context: medical occlusions are assessed with imaging or endoscopy; plumbing blockages with inspection and flow tests. Treatment ranges from flushing or cleaning to mechanical removal, stenting, or surgical intervention in medical cases, and cleaning, repair, or replacement in non-medical settings. Prevention focuses on maintaining flow, regular maintenance, and addressing deposits or growth before they cause significant obstruction.

Eltömődése relates to elzáródás (occlusion) but emphasizes the clogging process rather than a single, complete blockage.
