Elektrotehnikas

Elektrotehnikas, often translated as electrotechnics or electrical engineering, is the field of study and practice concerned with the generation, transmission and utilization of electrical energy, together with electronic devices, control systems and instrumentation. The discipline combines physics, mathematics and engineering methods to design, analyze and operate electrical and electronic systems across a wide range of applications.

Its scope includes power engineering (generation, transmission, distribution, transformers and grids), electronics (circuits and semiconductors), electrical machines and drives, control engineering (automation and feedback systems), telecommunications and signal processing, instrumentation and metrology, and renewable energy systems and energy storage. It also covers high-voltage engineering, electrical safety and the integration of electrical technologies with information technology, mechatronics and cyber-physical systems.

Education and profession: Degrees such as electrical engineering, electrotechnology or elektrotehnika prepare graduates for roles as design engineers, project managers, field engineers, technicians and system integrators. Typical study areas include circuit theory, electromagnetism, power electronics, control theory, sensors, digital systems and programming. Professionals work in power utilities, manufacturing, transportation, research laboratories and technology firms.

History: The field emerged in the 19th century with the development of electric power and electrical machines and expanded through the 20th century with electronics, telecommunications and automation. In recent decades it has broadened to include digital technologies, renewable energy, smart grids and energy efficiency.

Standards and safety: Practice is guided by international and national standards from organizations such as IEC and IEEE, ensuring interoperability, safety and reliability of electrical equipment and systems.
