Elektrilaadimist refers to the process of replenishing the energy stored in an electric vehicle's battery. This is typically achieved by connecting the vehicle to a power source through a charging cable. The charging process involves transferring electrical energy from the grid or a dedicated charging station to the vehicle's onboard battery management system, which then regulates the flow of electricity to the battery cells.

There are several methods and types of electric vehicle charging. Level 1 charging uses a standard household outlet (e.g., 120V in North America) and is the slowest, often suitable for overnight charging of plug-in hybrids or vehicles with smaller batteries. Level 2 charging utilizes a higher voltage (e.g., 240V) and is commonly found in homes, workplaces, and public charging stations. This method offers significantly faster charging times compared to Level 1.

DC fast charging, also known as Level 3 charging, is the quickest method available. It bypasses the vehicle's onboard charger and directly delivers high-power direct current to the battery. This is ideal for long-distance travel, allowing for substantial range replenishment in a relatively short period. The charging speed is dependent on the vehicle's charging capability, the charging station's power output, and the battery's current state of charge.

The infrastructure for elektrilaadimist is expanding globally, with an increasing number of charging stations being installed in various locations. Factors such as charging connector types (e.g., Type 1, Type 2, CCS, CHAdeMO), charging network availability, and payment methods are important considerations for electric vehicle owners.
