Electretmateriaali, also known as electret material, is a type of material that retains a permanent electric charge, making it capable of generating a quasi-static electric field. This property is due to the presence of trapped charges within the material, which can be created through various processes such as corona charging, triboelectric charging, or the application of an external electric field.

Electret materials are widely used in various applications due to their ability to generate and maintain an electric field without the need for an external power source. They are commonly used in microphones, loudspeakers, and other audio devices, where they serve as the diaphragm or membrane that converts sound waves into electrical signals and vice versa. In addition, electret materials are used in sensors, actuators, and other electromechanical devices, as well as in electrostatic precipitators and other air purification systems.

The properties of electret materials can be tailored to specific applications by controlling the type and concentration of trapped charges, as well as the material's composition and structure. For example, the use of polymers with high dielectric constants can enhance the material's ability to retain and generate an electric field. Similarly, the incorporation of conductive fillers or additives can improve the material's electrical conductivity and stability.

Despite their many advantages, electret materials also have some limitations.
