Eldrazi

The Eldrazi are a race of ancient cosmic beings in Magic: The Gathering (MTG). They originate from the Blind Eternities, the space between planes, and are not native to any single world. They travel the multiverse and feed on mana and life on the planes they invade, leaving devastation in their wake.

Physically, Eldrazi are depicted as colossal, formless, colorless entities that warp space and magic around them. They are generally non-sentient in the traditional sense, driven by an instinct to devour their hosts rather than to reason or plan. In the game, they are categorized as colorless beings and are typically among the most powerful threats on the battlefield, with abilities that disrupt conventional spellcraft and defenses.

Three major Eldrazi titans stand out: Emrakul, the Promised End; Kozilek, the Butcher of Truth; and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. These titans epitomize the scale and power of the Eldrazi and feature prominently in major MTG storylines, notably on the plane of Zendikar and in related sets.

In Zendikar lore, the Eldrazi arrived to consume the plane’s mana and reshape reality. They were, at various points, contained or banished by ancient powers, including the Eye of Ugin and the Gatewatch, a coalition of planeswalkers. Their threat persisted in later arcs, driving key events in Battle for Zendikar and Oath of the Gatewatch and reshaping multiverse-wide storytelling.

In gameplay terms, Eldrazi cards are colorless and often carry high mana costs, emphasizing ramp and large, game-changing effects that can bypass colored resistance. They remain among MTG’s most iconic and enduring cosmic threats.
