Etymology and usage: The word is a blended neologism formed from ekspress- (from express) combined with a suffix that suggests a collective or categorial set. It has gained traction in contemporary studies of pragmatics and multimodality, particularly in research on informal speech, social media, and broadcast media, where rapid delivery often yields salient ekspressiota.

Characteristics: Ekspressiota manifests across four strata: vocal (pitch, tempo, intensity), visual (facial expression, gaze, gesture), textual (elongation, punctuation, capitalization), and symbolic (emojis, emoticons).
