Egyenirányítókat, commonly translated as rectifiers, are electronic components or circuits that convert alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). This process is essential in many electronic devices where a stable, unidirectional current is required.

The most basic form of a rectifier is a diode, a semiconductor device that allows current to flow in only one direction. When an AC voltage is applied to a diode, it conducts only during the positive half-cycles of the input waveform, blocking the negative half-cycles. This results in a pulsating DC output.

More complex rectifier circuits can achieve better conversion efficiency and smoother DC output. Half-wave rectifiers use a single diode and only utilize half of the AC input cycle. Full-wave rectifiers, on the other hand, utilize both halves of the AC input cycle. Center-tapped full-wave rectifiers use two diodes and a transformer with a center tap, while bridge rectifiers use four diodes arranged in a bridge configuration and do not require a center-tapped transformer.

The output of a rectifier is typically not a smooth DC voltage but rather a pulsating DC. To obtain a smoother DC output, filtering components such as capacitors are often used in conjunction with rectifiers. Capacitors store electrical energy and discharge it during the gaps between the rectified pulses, smoothing out the voltage variations. Voltage regulators may also be employed to further stabilize the DC output voltage to a precise level.
